How Much Does Senior Living Cost? Understanding Pricing, Care Levels and What’s Included
When families begin looking at assisted living, cost is an important question that often comes up during the process. The answer depends on several factors, including the type of apartment selected and the amount of daily support a resident needs.
How Assisted Living Pricing Is Determined
At OAK PARK® Place, assisted living pricing is influenced by apartment size and level of care. Apartment options may include studios, one-bedroom apartments and two-bedroom apartments. Before move-in, each prospective resident completes an assessment with an OAK PARK® Place nurse to help determine the level of support needed.
That assessment looks at the individual’s health, mobility and other care needs. The goal is to create a care plan specific to the resident rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach. Because care needs differ from person to person, two residents in similar apartments may have different monthly costs.
What Is Included in the Monthly Cost?
Families should look beyond the base price and ask exactly what is included. Some senior living communities use an all-inclusive model, while others charge separately for certain services.
At OAK PARK® Place, assisted living includes 24/7 access to care, a medical alert pendant, meals, activities and many everyday utilities and services such as TV, Wi-Fi, water, electricity and other standard household utilities. Some personal expenses, such as haircuts and other personal items, are separate.
Assisted Living vs. Memory Care
Memory care typically costs more than assisted living because residents may require a higher level of specialized support and supervision. An assessment can help determine whether assisted living or memory care is the better fit.
Finding the right level of care is about more than cost. The right environment and support can help a resident feel comfortable, stay engaged and thrive in their new home.
Start With an Assessment and a Conversation
The best way to understand what senior living may cost for your family is to speak directly with communities you are considering. Ask about apartment options, care levels, included services and possible additional charges. Touring multiple communities can also help you compare not only price, but the value, services and environment each community provides.
